Hi, I’m Jason Hicks from Grimes, Iowa, USA and I have been a passionate web designer and developer for over 15 years. I acquired my Web Development AAS degree in 2014 and I can’t believe I can get paid for doing what I enjoy doing!
WP
Around the year 2012, WordPress was still a big platform, but was considered to be good for mainly blogging and not much more. Then Joomla came along and was considered a well round software that could do much more than just blogging, for example making an eCommerce website. Because of that, it was the new upcomer that was going to overtake the world. At that time, I spent a lot of time in Joomla. The problem is that WordPress expanded to also become more than just a blogging CMS and grew even bigger. Now it powers more than 35% of the internet (according to WordPress.com). I realized this in 2014 after seeing many of my clients embracing WordPress, this is why I now [mostly] focus my efforts into WordPress.
But that doesn't mean I only know WordPress. I also enjoy making standard HTML and CSS websites using Dreamweaver. Though, I found a new HTML editor called Pinegrow and I'm liking it so far. I like that it can be outright purchased without any subscription fees. My HTML/CSS websites usually also include other coding technolgies like PHP, JavaScript, jQuery and more.
I really enjoyed getting my Web Development degree in 2014. Even though I already had some knowledge in web development, I learned a lot and considered things that I wouldn't have otherwise thought about.
